I need help on a water supply and dwv test I understand the concept but, I have no idea how to do it. I was told by a plumber that the test were only required for underground piping, (he was wrong). After the pex supplies were installed and stubbed out and the dwv was installed for both the lav and closet, the inspector asked about the test. I checked some locally and a guy told me that it was very easy to do myself rather than getting a plumber.
I think; The DWV needs to be plugged at the lowest level of the new pipe, at the lav drain and closet flanges also. at this poin I think that you can fill (from the roof) the dwv pipe. and it is supposed to hold water. Is this near correct?

On the supplies, the new pex is to be plugged at the source and the hot and cold can be put together to become one and then compressed air at ?psi is to be introduced into the piping. I think that I need a pressure guage somewhere in the line to show the inspector that the pipes can hold the pressure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated? Thanks in advance. CSP

Don't know what pressure for PEX........I do know 100 psi for copper piping.

All DWV must be tested for 5 psi for 15 minutes. Use gem caps and blow-up balls to seal off system.....make sure you install them correctly if you use water to test......or you will have a major catastrophe.

Use an air compressor to pressurize the system........find the leaks and correct them before getting it inspected.

Thank you very much. I will post the outcome before X-mas, because I will have the inspection about the 20th or 21st.
Again, Thanks Chris
