The site has been almost inoperable since I tried to use it at 12:00pm (noon) EST. At 1:00pm EST it had improved a bit but still wasn't back to normal.
Now at 1:09pm EST it seems to be OK.

I started having a great deal of trouble on the site at 11:17 EST today, and the site was almost completely out of order by 11:30 EST. This continued for me until at least 12:40 EST. Only the forums seemed to be affected. You could private message, see who's online, and use the home wiring and more section with no problem. When the trouble first started to appear at 11:17, I posted a message that wasn't added to the main index page. The message was in fact included in the thread, but it just didn't say so on the index.

Monday 12-6
I was on from about 1PM EST to 1:55 and it was awful. I tryed to log in and out and also lowered my browser setting to low. Did not seem to make a difference. All of a sudden at 1:52 PM EST it ran like an roaring freight train. Go figure. Is this site on a dedicated server at your location or is it hosted via dedicated or non-dedicated server.
At night it runs fine, so I lean toward the server cannot handle the daytime traffic. I would not blame programming here.

Seems to be a patern starting as early as 11 am EST and periodically after that up to a max of 6 pm EST.
I will send a note to the host, problem seems to be most times afecting only accessability to the database and not the file server.

NOTE SENT TO HOST
Site
selfhelpforums.com
There seems to be a trend perticularly during weekdays starting
as early as 11am EST, and lasting variable lengths, sometimes
a 1/2 hour, sometimes lasting a couple of hours, and intermittent
problems during the rest of the day (lasting 5 minutes to more
than a hour) ending no later than 6pm EST.
During these time the database server is very slow to respond and may
not be accessable at all, and since selfhelpforums.com ,
runs only a forum, lack of database response means the site is
not accessable.
The other sites on my account that uses only the file server
respond fine (most times)
It seems to me that the database servers are getting surge demands at
certain times in the daytime that it can't handle, and either
doesn't respond or responds very poorly.
I understand, you may not have an answer right now, but if you could
investigate it and get back to me by email it would be appreciated.
Thank You
Don Kerr

No this site is not on a decicated server, we simply cannot afford it. The sites are on what is refered to as virtual servers, which are shared servers, can also have other sites on it.

I'd bet my money that the host has too much traffic to deal with in that time period. The 11A to 5P is peak usage as all time zones in continential US are on line.

I agree, I believe their database servers are being overworked during peak demand periods.
I send my concerns to a 'live tech' support and asked they get back to me by email. I haven't yet received a reply. Keep an eye on it to see if it continues to be problems during peak periods. If there is not an improvement I will open a 'support ticket' and see what they reply to that.
