Say I'm running 14/3 cable and want the first receptacle powered by the black wire and the second receptacle powered by the red wire. When passing the red wire through the first box is it necessary to cut the wire then join it again with a marrette or can I just let it continue to the second box unbroken?
I know it would be more of a pain to wire it this way, but it would provide more room in the box and have one less connection to fail (safer).
