Does anyone use a digital infrared thermometer like the one by Fluke?
I would think this would make a great quick-check for potential arc-fault problems lurking behind walls and panels. I was thinking about buying one -- I too am a tool junkie. I was thinking a little walkaround would reveal any devices that were hotter than normal.

Our fire department uses them for quick detection of hot spots inside/ouside of structures, ground fires, and any place where source of ignition is not readily apparent.

When I did mostly HVAC work, the infrared non-contact thermometer was used many times a day. I still use mine to detect hot bearings on motors, side arm disconnect blades, and to spot a hotter than normal breaker in a panel. I've never tried to use it at devices and walls. While I love the FLUKE brand, I think that their thermometer gun is a little on the expensive side. There are better models for cheaper, in my opinion. If you do buy one, be sure get a model that shines a red laser dot on what you're checking. Models with the laser dot will give you better accuracy, since you know exactly what you're checking.
