this engine (10hp) is on a powermate generator with less than 2 hours running time.will not keep running unless on halve choke(no load).have been thru carb twice but no change.this is for use during power outage.change gas every year & use stabil gas treatment.i'm thinking the stabil gas treatment is a hoax & the carb is gummed up internally.what think ye the experts??

I think you are right on the mark. If it were me I would take this carb off. Take it to a well tooled mechanic that has an acid tank to soak carbs. Have him soak the carb in acid then clean it out.

This is exactly what I have been saying about buying the gasoline engine powered generators. I have heard this same problem in every emergency and almost every construction project where generators sat a short time being brand new less than 5 hours true run time but failed to start when needed due to lacquered up carb from drying gas over the setting time.

Gas stab works some but don't count on it long term storage.

Next time you buy a generator think if you have a lawn or farm tractor with a PTO drive on the tractor. If so then forget paying extra for the gas engine and by a PTO driven generator. Let it set for a decade, mow your grass regularly and in minutes you have emergency power with reliability due to running your tractor for normaly use on a regular basis.

Just my thoughts

Good day;
I am new here and found this site while doing a search for something else.
There may be some info in there you would like to check out.

I agree with your idea concerning fuel stablizers. I tell all my customers the same line at my shop, McCoys lawn equipment superstore in Austin, Texas. "when in doubt, pour it out". Never, ever leave fuel in your equipment past 45 days. Vating the carb for at least one hour is a great idea and then blowing everything is the plan, take note. On that carb there is a very small opening on the very bottom of the bowl nut that if uncleared WILL cause the engine to hunt for gas. ie running the choke half turned, also replaceing the needle and seat at this point will also be needed. needle and seat kit p/n is 631021, rubber bowl gasket is p/n 631028. good luck

Hi Dennis, we are in the philippines and have a coleman generator with
a Tecumseh HM100 engine. We are having fuel problems and would
appreciate your help as this is a remote area and we cannot get local help. We
noticed your comments on the carburetor on the HM100 and would like
your suggestions regarding our problem.The red low oil indicator comes on
after every two hours of continuous running and we need to add oil .
There appears to be no excessive oil leak. We bought this generator
approx two years ago and this has just started to happen. Thanks in
advance.
