Does anyone know if the IRC addresses the fit between gypsum panels? I saw a drywall job the other day that made me go "HOLY S###!". There were gaps between many of the panels up to 1-1/4". None of these gypsum panels were part of a fire rated assembly, and it was not a gypsum lath job for skim coat plaster. This was to be a regular drywall job. I just couldn't help but to think that the IRC must addresss this.

Sounds crazy! Get a pic if you can, and post it MD!

The IRC requires the walls to be sealed. Drywall or tape and bed mudding is equal in value to meet the sealed walls requirements.
Nope no code forbidding a bad drywall job but sure adds to the cost of drywall finishers. May hear some cussing from those finishers !! Those professional finishers sure won't like the drywall job for sure.
No code violation as long as taped and bedded.
