Two part question-

How many outlets can I have on a circuit. I'd like to add 11 outlets to a 15 amp circuit. Any rule of thumb on this?

Also, I'd like to bring different parts of the circuit into the attic and join through junction boxes. Is there any rule on doing this? I have yet to find one junction box in my attic and can only assume that the existing circuits are all daisy-chained without the use of junctions.

Commercially calculated you may install 10 receptacles on a 15 amp circuit for general use. 13 receptacles may be installed on a 20 amp circuit for general use and meet commercial design.

Residential design requires you to find the square foot of living space then multiply that time 3 Va per square foot then divide by 2400 watts on a 20 amp circuit for general lighting [general use receptacles are general lighting] this will tell you how many general lighting branch circuits required to serve your home as a minimum. Then there is no limit how many receptacles are placed on a circuit as long as they are evenly installed on that minimum number of general lighting branch circuits required per this paragraph.

Junction boxes are seldom used in open stud wiring. Double, triple, quad switch boxes are used to wye out to multiple directions on a circuit or deep receptacle boxes are installed allowing a second cable to wye out two different directions as power out cables from that receptacle box.

Junction boxes are sometimes used for convenience in remodel fishing in closed wall type construction. YOu are limited to box fill rules per NEC and those junction boxes must not be a plenum and must always be accessible.

HOpe this helps

I am wiring a new shop, right now. I did the calculation and came up with .76. Maybe I did it wrong or I don't understand the answer. The building is not commercial, it is really just a detached garage. I have 13 outlets on a 20 amp breaker right now, for 24 x 24 feet. Will this be alright?
The walls are open, so now is the time to change it if needed. This is a one man shop so most tools are used one at a time. I plan to put the dust collector on a separate breaker.

13 receptacles on a 20 amp circuit would be within code for a nondwelling structure.
