I am saddened to learn of the recent bankruptcy filing of Interstate Bakeries (http://money.cnn.com/2004/09/22/news/fortune500/interstate_bankruptcy/?cnn=yes), the manufacturer of Twinkies. This electrician's survival for many years has depended on a steady supply of oatmeal creme pies, Twinkies, and Gatorade. Now there's a possibility that my diet may be cut by 1/3. Why? Interstate blames the declining profits on the popularity of low carb diets. Jeeze. I thought that carbohydrates, grease, oil, and lard were part of the four food groups. No?

Even in an outright liquidation those profitable product lines will be picked up by somebody else. You diet will not need to suffer.
I remember a while back a customer in California sold their only product line to a competitor. Without that, they had no need for the plant, employees, or equipment.
They never even ended up using the boatload of equipment that we had just manufactured for them. We were paid as per the contract and we never heard from anyone there again!
It turns out that the return on investment from operating the plant and peddling the stuff was less than selling out the line and investing in T-bills. It worked out well for the owners but the long time employees didn't fair as well!
