My wifes' been on my case now for a while to "do something" about the squealing we would hear from the kitchen faucet whenever you'd turn it on. So I replaced the rubber washers throughout. My question is, does the foam insulation used to keep pipes from freezing also help to minimize the sound emitted from them when water is turned on. Not that that has anything to do with the previous problem. I have my kitchen below my sons' room and you can still hear when the water is turned on. It doesn't squeal any longer but you can hear the water turned on. I was thinking of using this insulation just on the pipes under the kitchen sink. :)

The squeel is normally a barely opened faucet squeezing tight amount of water through a very small slit causing a squeel or vibration with lower tone levels. Then that sound magnifies and travels through the metal pipes like a megaphone. Yes the foam insulation around the pipes will muffle the sound some.

Good Luck

Thanks for confirming. I placed the insulation and it does sound (or doesn't sound) a lot less. Now if I could just do something with that damn dishwasher. :)

How about asking your wife for permission to wash the dishes by hand? That would be quieter. That would also shock your wife and make her wonder a lot. Then again your wife may have you committed and checked out by a doctor though ! You washing the dishes by hand would definitley quiet down that dishwasher, take my word on that one. Am I getting better or not? Now I am guaranteeing results !
