My dryer is a Kenmore 90 series 66912691.
I replaced a 3395654 motor with a brand new 279787 motor. It seemed pretty harmless and the dryer now functions like it should. However, my problem is that now throughout the cycle the dryer shuts off and on sometimes up to 20 times.

Did I hook up the new motor wrong?
or
Is there a thermal protector malfunctioning. Sometimes it goes 10 minutes and sometimes it goes 10 seconds without turning off. This can't be good for the new motor.
I can't seem to find which device is the thermal protector.

Thanks

Hi,

66912691

I got 110.66912691 to work for me....a Whirlpool built Kenmore.

my problem is that now throughout the cycle the dryer shuts off and on sometimes up to 20 times.

Motor shutting off on it's built in safety/thermal switch, bad start switch with the built in relay, loose wire are common trouble makers.

Normally the thermal/safety switch will not be so inconsistant ( 10 min or 10 seconds ) and when shutting off on the motor switch the motor usually needs cooling down time before it will attempt to run again.
I'd double check the relay/start switch!

Push to start relay switch (http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=153&N=527426)

Thanks for the feedback. Last night it would go on for 19 seconds and off for 41 seconds very consistently for the entire 80 minute cycle. I must have been wrong about the inconsistencies last week. Do you still think it is the relay/start switch?

Definetly should be checked.

Last night it would go on for 19 seconds

Ran ok for that time with no/any strange nosies?

No strange noises now. It runs for a bit (5 minutes) at the start of a cycle, but when it gets warm it goes to its predictable, on for 19 seconds off for 41 seconds (1 minute exactly). It is very weird.
Also, I had changed out the motor. I changed the motor because it would bog down and it would turn off the dryer. Then it would start up again after awhile.
I thought it was the motor. After I changed it... it ran well for 2 loads aI think and then it started doing this on-off thing.

No power to the motor when the dryer shuts off and the problem is elsewhere ( relay, wire, ect ).
