Well, it started out as a small, "hey honey" project....hey honey, let's enclose the porch so the bugs don't get us. Well, the screen room truned into the sunroom, and here we are! It really wasn't too bad.
The boards were Trex, installed by the builder with no gaps, and then painted battleship grey! WTF? Are you kidding me? They were getting spongy, with the water sitting on them with no place to go. I thought of ripping the circular saw down each joint to open them up, but when I pulled them off and found mold, the gauntlet was thrown down. Out they go!
I added additional 4x4's to what my "builder" used, and attached the ledger to the rim joist. It's 14 wide and 16 deep, basically 4 feet further out than the original deck. My first thought was to add a shed roof, which is why you see the 2x4's over the door in the one picture. I was trying to get a visual, and determining the pitch and run necessary. Well, it wasn't going to work, and a buddy from my horseshoe league offered to help me with a cathedral roof, tying into the existing roof.
