I can't believe the luck I'm having. Now my transmission seems to be going. I can't afford to fix it!!

I'll post back with the problem I'm having......seeing that I'm on the road.

Depends on what year and make transmission but often times it is as simple as a plugged line going to a computer sensor that shifts the transmission when to speed. Don't panic yet.

Trade that CLUNKER in before the money runs out!

Ok, here is what it's doing. When I speed up, it vibrates--vibrating at certain speeds. I notice I have to drive slow to keep it from vibrating. Shifting is hard sometimes. I checked the transmission fluid, and it seems to be low--which means I may have a leak. I have it scheduled to be checked on Friday. If it's bad, then I'm screwed!!!

That would be nice if we didn't have to worry about monthly payments. My current van is paid off (1996)

Many are trading in their clunkers, but have they considered their budget. I recall this is what got people in trouble in the first place--being irresponsible.

I could be wrong, but I hve never heard of vibration from a tranny low on fluid, check u-joints.

You may be right, yet we will see--seeing that I'm actually taking it in to be checked.

I will let you know.

Ok, the repair shop couldn't get the van to act the way I said it was acting. So I had to go up there to drive it myself. Well, the van ran perfect (HUN)??????????? Yet, the repairman did notice what I noticed, and that was the overdrive light blinking. They came to the conclusion that it may be the torque converter--whatever that is. Also, the transmission was leaking. They did a transmission service. I will see if it worked in due time.

The torque converter is the fluid coupling between the engine and drivetrain. You have this instead of a clutch (it will slip enough to allow the engine to idle while the wheels are not turning).

This slippage, however, is inefficient, so all modern cars have a lockup torque converter. This is basically an electric clutch which locks the torque converter on both side, so you have a direct, no slip connection between engine and wheels. This torque converter clutch kicks in around 45 MPH. If for some reason it can't engage, then your vehicle will shudder as it locks, unlocks, locks,...

So you may be able to fix this -- could be an electrical problem! I doubt it is loose or abraded wiring, but most likely the electric engagement of the torque converter clutch is bad or weak. This is just like a coil in a contactor being weak -- it will chatter. But could be other things -- a bad vehicle speed sensor, a bad transmission computer, or maybe it isn't the torque converter clutch at all...

I see! Well they removed the pan, drain the fluid, replaced filter, flush or drained converter, and refilled. They also installed a shudder fix supplement (Whatever that is). They told me it will take some time for it to work it's way through the system. This is why I said we will see in due time.

Thanks for the input!!
