I acquired an antique Pflueger trolling motor which did not run. Before checking out the wiring I foolishly took the electric motor partially apart -now I need to reassemble it and cannot figure out how to put the brushes back in their holders and then back on the rotor. Any help would be appreciated.

It is evident that the trolling motor is not the problem, and foolish is the root cause, having said that, its quite a little chore to reinstall those brushes, you will need to remove the armeture, set the brushes on the comuntator and reinstall as 1 unit, this requires dexterity and a GREAT deal of patience.

Cormier has the major trick discribed. However adding to this you will find some rubber seals where the motor seals to each other. Apply some vasiline lubricant on those rubbers before you try to reinstall the motor back together. The rubber is probably dry and can be damaged not wanting to slide during the resealing process unless you lube the rubber.

Just an added thought

Thank you for confirming that foolishness is the culprit - if I could only get that sucker under control!!! However, I can't remove the thing as a unit because the motor housing is attached to a long shaft through which the wires from the control head run. If I pull the wires down through the shaft in order to remove the guts from the housing I don't know how I would ever reassemble them.

Yes, the the guts of the motor are in this waterproof housing and I can see no way of removing them. But, amazingly enough, I solved the problem (or that particular problem anyway). Working with the end caps pulled out as far as possible I put the brushes and springs in the holders, held them in place with a needle nose locking pliers, tied them with fish line, removed the pliers, slid them into place and cut and removed the fish line. Thanks for the imput.
