what should I expect the inspecter to look for during his rough inspection before he lets me put up sheet rock.its a new kitchen that I have wired have all wires sticking out of boxs and nailed, should I have them connected at main panel or just resting above it.someone told me all grounds should be connected at boxs, they arent right now. and that connections should be made to complete the circuit till switchs and outlets are put in ,useing pigtails.this sounds like over kill for a rough inspection ,I only expected him to look and see if the rite wire/# outlets ect.were used please let me know how to be prepared for him

If I were the inspector of your home I would look to see that all wirenutting was completed leaving those wires designed to be direct connected to devices. This would include pigtails as required as well the equipment grounding conductors wire nutted with a pigtail to be connected to devices. All wire nutting should be done on rough in so that only the final connections to the devices or light fixtures are required.

I would look for required smoke detectors, proper sized wires, proper circuit design such as what is allowed on any particular branch circuit including specialty branch circuits such as laundry, small appliance branch, fastened in place appliances and more. I would look for any wrapping of cables around studs or joists blocking installation of drywall. I would look for properly placed switches where required. I would look for all the wires to be installed in the panel with all neutral and grounding wires connected to proper bars with the hot wires wrapped inside but not connected to any breakers until the devices are installed. I would confirm proper service size as well as proper grounding electrode system. I would check for proper clearance or protection concerning the 1 1/4" from face of framing members. I would look for proper sized wires as well as proper number of conductors per cable for specific uses. Proper securing of cables must be done. Much more would be checked as seen needed.

Keep in mind that a rough in is expected to be all wiring done short of installation of final connections to devices, switches, and appliances.

90% of all wiring and dressing is done on the rough in inspection, all that is left would be final connections to the devices, switches, and appliances.

Hope this helps
