Thats a lot of work! Do all that over the long weekend :-)
So how did you lift that LVL by yourself, walk it up a ladder a little at a time? I did a smaller one by looping ratcheting tiedowns over the top plate.

I was roofing over the long weekend
2 big 30x55 skylights on the back are in, only 3 more to go
The open area is to haul the cupola up onto the roof
There will be a little "roof" over the garage doors to break up the front of the house
Yes - I walked the LVL up a ladder on one side
Then I used 2x blocks as I slid it up over the wall to prevent it from sliding sideways
More 2x scrap to prevent it from sliding back towards the other wall
Then to the other side & walk it up another ladder
That was the worst wall to put up, wife was nervous
The bottom of each wall was tied down with metal wire to prevent them from kicking out
Then the wall was raised up slowly until upright
I used 2x blocking to support the wall as it was raised

Final move..... Cupola has landed on the roof
This was fun...not
The electric winch has more then paid for itself

The tipping point
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/Daveywb/Garage%20April%2009/DSCF5831.jpg
Now I just need to build the mount at the peak & up she goes !!
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/Daveywb/Garage%20April%2009/DSCF5834.jpg
Now I can install the last 6 rafters & finish the roof
Saturday is supposed to be a good day
I want all the plywood up & roofed up past the lower skylights
Ideally I want to be roofed 20' up & only 10' left to roof

Looking great, now all ya need is a big brass bell and a 1,000,000,000 candle light and you'll be good to go.
Bet your getting happy at seeing that final weather proofing stage ?

I expected to have the roof on & dry by the end of May
We have had a miserable Spring & start of Summer
I will be SO happy when this is dry
I need to move everything out of the 2nd floor dormer & get that finished by Fall/beginning of winter
So I need this dry for storage
I thought I would have a 1/2 day Friday to work
But wife said she has errands to run :eviltongue:
So close.........
A bell.....that would be funny
There will be a CFL light up there

Bay window on the left in existing house will be replaced
These are actually older pics from when I put the cupola in place

I got to thinking when you get this all done and you need a new project you could adopt all of us. We can call you dad, you pay all the bills, the rest of us could then go fishing and use that pretty pool. Now that is an idea beyond belief ! Then again if you don't want to support our then lavish life style you could always put that light bulb in Pushkin was talking about. We could then turn out our lights across the nation and use your big light for all of us. Think of the electrical cost savings to the rest of us.
Am I thinking or what

I'm thinking, (damn there's a dangerous statement...lol) with a running start I can make it from that roof into the pool, of course beer is needed.
PS that pool liner looks remarkably like mine !!

Here's a more inviting pool shot
Seems like you just need to slide down the roof with enough speed & in you go

I did find the light I wanted to put in there temp, looks like an old lantern
Today was the 1st "amost dry" day
I'm up to the peak on one side of the back, all skylights are in
Not sealed in totally, but very little rain came in
Yesterday I was running the step flashing between the new addition & the old roof
(2) 16' roof sections to cut in
I have about 20 pieces left to put in at the top of the roof/addition
I was getting some water in where the wall met the roof
After some downpours today - no water
I have projects still for the next 2-3 years I think:
This year - side most of the house
Finish back dormer (electric), insulate & drywall
Finish poool cabana (paint, some electric)
Next year/winter
Wire the addition, insulate & drywall
Plan kitchen renovation - start next year??
New driveway in, finish landscaping front/side near addition
Rebuild/raise 12' deck out back - build pergola to cover it
Finish building/putting ponds together (off the deck)
2nd year - finish whatever is left
Build bar in great room - rename room Man Cave :thrasher:
Install floor, soapstone stove, trim etc & paint
3rd year
Major party to celebrate completion (hopefully)
Drink & enjoy
Other odds & ends:
New solar heater for pool
Solar hot water heater for house, plus outside shower
Rainwater recovery system for outside shower & watering plants
Multiple Solar passive heating systems for house
More gardens - I have watermelon growing this year!

Good lord....when do you have time to "SCUBA?" :D

I opened the door up from the sunroom to the great room today
When I built the wall I outlined where the door would go & screwed the studs & sheathing in
Fairly easy to remove
Then built the staircase - 6 steps 7.25" rise & 11.5" run
Much better then the steep stairs leading to the 2nd floor
Tomorrow I wall up the last opening & install the last window
I left this open for access - but with the stairs in I'm all set
Waiting on the slate to come in for the cupola
Also ordered the rest of the Hardi board for the siding
No time to dive yet this year
Its been too rainy, the good days I've needed to work on the addition

I've been working on odds & ends
Started to close in under the deck (built a skirt) with some boards I picked up for free taking someone's pool deck apart
Last group cookout of the year Sunday, wife invited friends etc
So I've been working on cleaning & organizing for the party
Last half of August was hot & steamy - not too much done
Cupola is almosty fully shingled, weathervane is up

Deck skirt is mostly done
A few boards by the swinging gate to install, then the latch
The entire section to the left of the hose swings open
The other side will have another gate for access to hot tub wiring & a storage area under the sunroom
This was all from reclaimed wood from someones pool deck I took apart
