I have a friend who wrote it. I would advise taking one of the courses ESA offer. A good portion of the exam is nothing to do with electrical. It is about contractor stuff like insurance required. There is a good deal about high voltage as well. Everything in the code book is covered in some form. So if he is only industrial or only residential he never make it through.

70% is a pass. The Ministry IS a wealth of information. I just wrote in the past 2 months. The exam is set up to fail 40% of the people who write it for the first time!!! Since it worked for me I would like to suggest that you get your hands on every stack of electrically related multiple choice question that you can and go through them. It will be worth the hours and hours you spend on review when you can walk in to the exam and be familiar with the questions based on extensive review!!!!! Most colleges that have electrical programs offer a pre-certification course. I highly recomend this as it worked for ME. I struggled with electric code at Conestoga College- Doon Campus and thanks to the persistence of my professors I passed my C. of Q. the first try and believe me I was surprised as were many others. This is my suggestion for you and I wish you GOOD LUCK and hope that you dedicate your study to the Canadian Electrical Code 2009 edition!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALSO.....The Ministry will give you a sheet that will break down the areas of the test based on the pecentage of question for each group of test questions.....
