View Full Version : Drain Field Problem

My drain field has been freezing for the last three years. This year we dug up the drain field and replaced everything (thinking a pipe had collapsed or was plugged with tree roots). There were no collapsed pipes or tree root plugs. Everything went well with the replacement and we left the drain field uncovered to check for leaks, etc. Here's the problem... there is a pencil thin stream of water continually running through the drain field. We suspect that is why we had the freezing problem in the first place. Here's the strange part! We shut down the well and drained the house. After watching for 3 hours we still had the stream of water. We are fairly certain the tank is not sitting in sub-water because it was bone dry down to the drain field pipe connection. This is really strange and would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

How far back does the water begin? Is it starting in the tank? Maybe break the connection shortly after the tank and plug the tank outlet. See if the tank fills or if the water still runs in the field. If tank fills, then open ahead of tank and see if water is running into tank. Maybe you have a spring?

I suspect you may have an old field tile cut when the field was originally installed leeching field water into the stone bed and into the fingers from a remote location.
