Maytag Wide-By-Side Refrig not cooling.......

I have a model number MZD2766GE* wide by side refrigerator freezer. The frig side is not cooling well at all. I noticed ice build up in the vents behind the ice maker. I appears the defrost is not working. How do I test the heater, thermostat, and ACD to be sure I order the correct part? Are all of these housed behind the freezer? Do I access them by removing the inner cover from the front of the unit?

Cooling coils are down near the bottom not up near the icemaker....also make sure the evaporator fan motor ( in the freezer ) is working.

How do I test the heater, thermostat, and ACD to be sure I order the correct part?

Derfost heater and defrost thermostat can be ohmed for continuity and IF they check ok ( have continuity ) the defrost control is replaced. If they DO NOT check ok, they are replaced first.

Are all of these housed behind the freezer?

Nope.
Defrost heater and defrost thermostat are embedded into the cooling/evaporator coils....which has a false wall in front and the defrost control is in the fresh food section beside the controls.
