The fall fishing has been excellent at Truman for a couple weeks now. Hybrid fishing (wipers if you wish) is really hot. They are biting double prop top waters, white spinner baits, square billed crankbaits in blue and chartruese (Manns 4 minus) and live shad fished vertically when fish arent surfacing. The best area is the Little Pomme arm by Fairfield boat ramp off the points on the West side of lake. Also the east side of KK island is producing many fish in the 8 lb. class, fish are being caught trolling large spoons over the humps. Water temperature is 62 degrees and this good fishing should continue thru November. Bass fishing is good and getting better. White buzz baits have been the best producer which really makes it fun. They are also hitting white spinnerbaits, crankbaits. soft jerk baits (Lake Fork Magic Shad), and tube jigs ( purple/red or watermelon/red). Fishing should really heat up in the next couple weeks. The bass are in shallow water (4 feet or less) in the larger coves that have feeder creeks. The Osage arm of the lake is the place to be, from Hogles Creek to Buzzards roost. Fish the lay down trees in the coves especially and hold on. We didnt catch the big ones on our trip last weekend but caught several bass 3 1/2 lbs. and smaller. Our best lure was white spinnerbait. Many bass are being caught in the 4 and 5 pound range. Coworker won bass tournament same weekend we were down and had 6 fish that weighed 19.42 lbs. His came on white terminator buzz bait out of Bell Island cove on the Osage arm. Great thing is hardly anybody fishing now that weather has cooled and dont have 10 bass tournaments going on. We fished several hours and pretty much had the lake to ourselves on Friday and Sunday. Saturday was a rain out. The Crappie are still in deep water. But when surface temp gets to 50 degrees they will begin to bunch up on creek channels in the big feeder creek coves. Truman is an incredible crappie fishery with almost all fish over 11 1/2 inches and many exceed 14 inches. This time of year all you need is your favorite tube jigs and twister grubs and you cant go wrong. Last December caught several limits out of Brushy Creek in the Big Tebo arm of the lake. This lake rarly freezes so great fishing lasts from about mid-November to the end of January. Only drawback is only allowed 15 fish per day per person and 30 in possession. Good thing is, when things get right, you and your buddy will have your limits in a couple hours. Hope this gets your fever up......RL

Sounds like a great time. Never fished truman lake in Missouri. Sounds like you fish it a lot. Come back with some pictures on your next trip.

Thinking of heading for Alabama in a few weeks if I can get away. Will let you know if I get there and back.

Good luck on your next fishing trip
