View Full Version : Relocating a RK Series Septic Control Box

I have a RK Series control box I would like to relocate to another area of my basement. Further away from where the wiring comes in the house. I have a question on the wiring.

I just took a look at it. It has power (romex) from the breaker panel which is pretty straight forward. Easily re-wired in its new location.

However it also has 9 control wires that come through the foundation wall (right now the control box is mounted very close to where the wires come in the house). 6 are marked as 14AWG and 3 others look to be a bit heavier. I was going to run down to the local home supply store and pick up a spool of wire and extend the wiring to its new proposed location. Is there any harm in doing so? Just wanted to see if this was a bad idea before I start such a task.

Thank You

What is an RK septic control box? What does it control?
I think you should be OK. Use the same size cable. Make all your connections in a junction box.

You should be fine extending these wires color matching and size matching. Just be sure you are not more than about 250' in the total run distance or be concerned about voltage drop. Just match the wiring using a junction box cutting the wires put into the junction box then a second junction box to reconnect at the new location.

Good Luck
