So, I purchased a recessed washing maching supply box (see pic) so that I could run my plumbing inside the new framed walls that I'm putting in the basement.
From the supply box, I'm thinking of running my plumbing to the same drain that is being used for my laundry tub (see pic).

Any thoughts? Does this make sense to do?

Yes this would work, it may fill up the utility tub some as it drains, just make sure you don't have any other P traps in the line other than the one under the tub.
If you have a top loader machine they use more water so this might be where the tub will take a little overflow while the existing P trap deals with the water, front loaders use very little water so I doubt you'd see any water back in the tub.
