Outdoor Light Box

Is it OK to mount an outside light (metal) box horizontally to a (wood) soffit? It seems it would be more protected from the weather there.

Lights and outlets mounted under soffits are somewhat common. In new work, I generally encourage the customer to let me mount at least one receptacle under the soffit for holiday lighting and such. In a wood soffit, it's super easy to cut out an opening and mount an old work box in "flush" for a more finished appearance. You should be a-o-k either way you prefer to do it.
