Water Heater Suggestions

I'm thinking of replacing my 5yr old Rheem 50gal natural gas water tank with something similar because I'd rather own than rent.

Any suggestions on what brands I should/shouldn't go for in terms of reliability and cost of repairs?

They don't get too much better than a Rheem. If you choose to get another brand, find one with a lifetime warranty. If you don't already have one a pressure tank extends the life of any water tank, and gives you extra protection for you water and supply lines.
