Hi. My questions are Whats the difference between a Ceiling Light Rough in and a Ceiling Fan rough in? and what kind (if any) work is involved in making a ceiling to a fan rough in? Will the ceiling rough in support a fan?

A ceiling fan rough-in differs from a ceiling light rough-in in two resepects:
1) A ceiling light rough in uses a regular ceiling box and a ceiling fan rough in uses a box specifically designed for the support of a ceiling fan. Ceiling fan rated boxes come in a variety of styles and materials.
2) A ceiling light rough in is normally done with two-wire (either 14-2 or 12-2), which is a neutral and a switched hot from the switch. A ceiling fan rough in is normally done with three-wire (either 14-3 or 12-3). The three wire cable contains a white neutral, and red switched hot for the light kit, and a black for the fan. The black can be either constant hot to work the fan off the pull-chain , or it can be switched as well with different switch besides the light switch. It is becoming more popular to set a double gang box for bedroom light switches so that you can have a switch for the light and a switch for the fan. Almost every room in new construction is prewired for ceiling fans, regardless of whether they actually get installed or not at finish. This gives you some flexability.
