I get a periodic septic smell outside of my house by the septic system. The house is two stories so I assume it isn't from the vents on the roof. The smell appears to be concentrated in one area. Any suggestions?

Info given is very vague.
A"downdraft "can cause this problem odor occasionally, depending on the surrounding effects (trees, adjacent bldgs, etc.) You say the smell is coming from one area....what area?
is the odor coming from where the tank is located, or is it coming from the field bed? When was the last time the tank was pumped?
Has this odor just recently started?
Post back with more info and you may receive some definite remedies to the problem

The tank was pump a few months ago and the system was certified, whatever that means! We pick up the smell between the house and where the cover is located for the septic which is our driveway. There are actual two covers. If I walk over to the covers I don't pick up the smell. It has been dry here if that's any indicator and it started a week ago.

I had a similar issue at my cottage - it was a tough one to solve but it turns out the odor was drifting over from the vent stack on the cottage's roof.

I extended it another 12" and this allowed the odor to dissipate and drift higher over the yard.

I was able to figure it out by how strong the odor was when there was no wind. It's worth a shot.
