splash sink questions

hi folks. I've been itching to move my washer and add a splash sink. The washer sits in the basement and is currently draining into a stand pipe that's about 10" off of our main sewer stack that vents up through the roof. I'm wondering if it would be kosher to install the sink about 5' from where the drain currently is and have the washer drain into it, or a pipe by it. If I do this I don't really want to open everything up to get in a new vent for the sink. is this something that's ok/wise or do I really need to have a vent for the sink in it's new location?
