Kenmore Model 110.86273800

My dryer gets dangerously hot if I do NOT turn the
dial to off.

While drying clothes, the dial remains in the start position and never advances to off. It will stay in that position for hours. When I remove the clothes it will then become dangerously hot if I do not turn the dial to off.

Please help.
Thank you.

Hi,

110.86273800

A Whirlpool built Kenmore.

A grounded heating element is a suspect trouble maker for the heat staying on.
Timer not advancing might be from the over heating or a seperate problem.
Power to the timer motor but no advancing/movement = new timer time.
