I have a Kenmore water softener model 625.8590 and I've been troubleshooting a problem with the tank filling up. I've cleaned the venturi and have ordered an new gasket because the old one showed some evidence of the venturi pattern (I have not received the new part yet, but I'm afraid that it will not fix the problem, since the brine is apparently being pulled from the tank during that part of the cycle). I held the unit in the brine cycle by removing power and let it drain the tank. Then I let it complete the cycle ... the tank looked empty of water. I later checked it and there was water in it again. I removed the hose connection from the venturi during the service cycle and can see some water coming from the venturi. I assume this leaking water during the service cycle is why the tank is filling up again ... water is coming from the venturi into the tank during the service period. Does anyone know if the new gasket will correct this problem? As I look at the manual it appears that no water should be entering the venturi assembly during the service cycle, but that may be what the gasket does??

If the gasket is not likely to solve the problem, can anyone direct me to the most likely cause of the problem?

You're on the right track but if you didn't buy a new disk, you should have. The disk wears on the gasket and the gasket wears the disk.

Yes, I bought the disk and gasket set.

What got me concerned is that during the service cycle, it didn't seem like water should be passed to the nozzle and venturi, so I was concerned that the problem might be farther upstream than the gasket and disk.

Replaced the gasket and disk in the nozzle and venturi assembly and there is still some flow into the tank during the service cycle. The water level has gone from approximately the top of the 1 to the middle of the 2 in about two days. Anyone know if this is normal? If not, any suggestions as to what to do next?

You could check the flow diagram in a manual to see if there isn't full line pressure on the float in the salt tank in the service position. I think there is but, if there is, then you have a leaking float valve seal.

try http://www.kenmorewater.com then animations then troubleshooting.
