Anyone ever just replace the shut off valve washer instead of the whole valve? I'm in a situation I may try and do that!

As long as the valve is good and the packing nut is not corroded to heck I can't see why not.
Be sure you have an exact replacement washer. (I've actually turned the old one over in a pinch.)

No problem if it hasn't scarred the seat too badly. There is a reseating tool that grinds it flat again if that is the case. Should be in most good old school hardware/plumbing shops.

Worked like a charm! I was able to pull it off of a valve I bought awhile back and never used! Better than re-soldering!
