The single handed shower valve appears to be leaking in my shower. What can be expected when attempting to replace the cartridge or o-rings?

First try and find out what brand of shower valve it is.
Second, try and find an old time hardware (plumbing shop) that carries your brand and just about everything else.
Third there's a bunch of different ways to disassemble. If you've done it before or know the brand or are mechanically inclined, you can still be surprised.
Fourth take the valve with you, and make sure you're not leaving your wife/husband all stinky while you're away for just a half-hour job, (which will turn out to be hours minimum.
Fifth look at the part you're replacing very carefully because if it's not perfect it's not going to work.
Sixth, well this is actually first but I forgot, turn off the water, and make sure you put a sign on it, that it's not to be turned back on.
Seventh, make sure you have a little white grease if it's a o-ring.

Thanks for the info! The name on the faucet says Watco.

The cartridge I pulled out was by Moen part #1225. Moen provides an excellent resource!
