Drill accessory

I once saw an exterminator drilling around a house with an electric drill to make holes for the termite solution. He had the drill plugged into a box that he explained would shut down the drill instantly if he hit a pipe or wire. He demonstrated by touching the side of the running bit on the pipe of the nearby gas meter. The drill, in fact, shut down. I'm kicking myself now for not making further inquiry about this gizmo. I tried doing an internet search, but came up empty. Anyone ever heard of this? It seems now that maybe I ought to own one.

Beats me but sounds pretty handy. Been asking around but nobody seems to know what this thing could be called. Maybe unique to exterminator buisness. Ill keep asking....RL
