After 19 yrs in our house, the water pipe has developed a low frequency vibrating roar when any faucet is turned on. Simultaneously turning on another faucet or flushing the commode will sometimes make it disappear. It is very annoying and disturbing especially when somebody is showering. It is is very loud and can even be heard outside the house!!. Any suggestions short of calling a plumber?

Might you have a pressure reducing valve in the main line?

I have heard of similar problems caused by bad toilet fill valves.

This is what they typically look like:

and they are right inside your house where the main water line comes in.

well, the noise became unbearable when one showers or with diswasher cycle so- we called the plumber - and you are right - the problem was the valve (under the house) as the water line enters the house - had a loose screw! that's all it took to fix it - $59 service call!
Thanks guys -
