Greetings,

We are trialling the relatively new T5 fluorescent fittings and tubes in our home workshop. However, all the AM bands in the house buzz whenever these lights are on.

Some have suggested that we install radio interference filters on the fluorescent fixtures on the ballast supply leads. However, neither the importers (yes, Chinese imports!) nor the lighting shops, nor the electronic parts shops can advise the type of suppressor. No one seems to know what to do.

Short of discarding the T5s and reverting to the old T8s, or buying new radios, what can we do?

Can anyone kindly offer some practical advice, please?

David

You could try some ferrite beads, but they may not filter low enough for AM radio. The real solution is probably better ballasts in a grounded metal package.

Perhaps any of these:

Thank you, Mark. I'll try out the split sleeve chokes to begin with.
