Hey guys, I have a well system out at my farm. Yesterday I dug up the water line to install one of those yard hydrants. I came close to the line, and touched it with my bucket, and the line came apart where it was joined together with a coupler.
We dug and dug, and found the other end of the line about 4 feet away, from where it came apart. Why would that be? Seems like it shot back in the ground making the four foot gap.
We installed the hydrant and added a chunk of pipe to make up the difference, and now there is a leak somewhere in the line. The pressure system kicks in every few minutes.
So what would the best way to find the leak be? Should I just start digging away till I find it? Turn the pressure system on for awhile and let it run till something wet shows up in the ground? My lines are 8 feet down, so that could take awhile! Im assuming its the line that goes in the direction of the house, since thats the direction the pipe moved in.
Any tips or advice would be appreciated. So far the plan is to start digging up the line in the direction of the house and replacing it.
