I have an Ademco VIA-30PSE Security system which is connected to a central station. Recently I have installed a DSL high speed internet to my computer.

I have installed a dsl filter for the residential security system. However, during the testing of the security system, the central station did not receive any signals, and letters FC ( Fail to Communicate) were shown on the panel. After I disconnected the power of the security system then reconnected the power to it, the letter FC disappeared from the panel. I have opened the
RG31X jack in the control panel, and have tested the green, and red wires of the Demark coming to the control panel. I have found that I have lost the dial tone.

Do you know how to restore the dial tone of security system? Any help to this matter will be appreciated.

Most alarms with line seizure take a special DSL filter. That's the simple explanation.

There are four (4) wires going to the alarm panel...2 from the Dmark as a direct feed and then 2 back for the rest of the house. You have a 2-wire DSL filter......won't work.

Try www.homesecuritystore.com

They sell the "alarm" DSL filters and line seizure modules

Thank you for your reply. I had bought an had installed a dsl filter called EXCZA431PJ31XA - DSL Filter for Residential Alarm Systems. This dsl filter is similar to the one sold by homesecuritystrore. com. Also, I talked to my security sytem company and they said that they would use the same dsl filter as mentioned above.

I think the problem is not about the dsl filter but the lost of the dial tone.

The incoming phone line line needs to make it's first stop at the alarm panel. You will need to test the incoming lines for tone.

From the alarm panel........the line goes to everything else in the house.

I suspect that whomever did the install did something with the wire confirguration and now it will have to be traced backwards for a correct installation. The other possibility is that the filter is NOT working and the DSL tone is killing dial tone.....like a buzzing noise.

Wish I could be more help but not much info to work with.

I have removed the existing RJ31X phone jack and has replaced with a new one. I have reconnected the wires to the new RJ 31X phone jack as follows:

the green and red wire to #4, and #5 of the RJ 31X
the yellow and black wire to #1, and #8 of the RJ 31X

Please note there are 8 set of screws in an RJ31X phone jack

After installing the new RJ31X, I have tested the security system. Within few minutes, I have got a call from the central station. They have detected a signal. Therefore, the dial tone have been restored, and the communication to the central station has been restored as well.

The problem is solved. Thank you friends for help in this matter.
