HI. I am remodeling a bathroom, and am installing tongue and groove 1/4 inch thick beadboard vertically on lower part of wall. I have several questions I hope someone can help me with -- please. (1) For inside and outside corners, do I mitre or butt the corners or is there a vertical molding that can be put on? (2) When putting up the chair rail across the top, does it lay on the top edge of the beadboard or does it fit partly over the beadboard? (3) I was going to nail and glue the beadboard to new and painted drywall. Can I hide the nails behind the chair rail and baseboard and glue behind the rest? Will this hold up? Hope you can help, and I am definity up for any other tips or heads up you may have. This is my virgin voyage on beadboard.

You could always miter the corners both inside and outside, you need to be exact in your cutting. You can also get inside and outside corners to cover over butted corners Lowe's and H.D sell them in their molding section. One will look like an outside corner and the other often used is 1/4 round for the inside corners.
The chair rail should sit partly over the top of the bead board, this enables you to nail the bead board before applying the chair rail.
Yes you can nail just the top and the bottom if your using glue to hold the middle section make sure you get a good quality construction adhesive and apply it on the wall or directly to the bead boards in a squiggly line, press firmly to the wall.

Thanks much, that helps alot. I really appreciate the advice. One clarification, if I may -- Any specified overlap of the beadboard by the chair rail?

How newly painted is the drywall? I would wait a few weeks to let the paint fully dry - may not be required with beadboard, but I know you should with wallpaper, so it might not be a bad idea.

Most chair rails have a routed out section on the back that is designed to sit over the bead board.

If you are painting the beadboard, go ahead and apply at least one coat before you put it up. If you don't, the expansion and contraction with heat and humidity will expose unpainted sections of the tongue.
