I have recently purchased a 135 yr old house.
There was minimal water leakage in the basement & it was not a problem.
Unfortunately, we have now discovered another leak in the opposite end of the basement. It is located in the finished Rec room & soaked about a 1/4 of the rug.
Before I start ripping up rug & underpad & removing trim & panelling I was wondering if anyone had some advice on the proper way to repair a block basement.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Firstly decide where the water is coming from, look around on the exterior of the house, is there a downspout dropping water in this area or maybe bad grading, it's most often one of those two that cause the problem.

In my opinion the only PROPER way is to do it from the outside. Dig, fix any cracks and seal the wall. Install proper footer drainage.

Without taking the panelling off I don't know exactly where the leak is coming from.
The rug is wet & it generates from one corner. On the outside that corner is bounded on one side by our driveway & the other by a concrete fron porch & step.
There are no down spouts near this corner.
Is there a special way to repair a concrete block wall??
Thanks,

Sounds to me like the water is coming from the driveway and pooling against the house and seeping down through a crack between the two. I'm asuming that the driveway is right up against the house or very close to it ? If this is the case, does a downspout empty out onto the driveway ?
A quick repair would be to seal the crack between the driveway and house with a good sealer.

You going to have to some work. Remove the panelling or dig on the outside. We can only guess until you investigate further.
