Hi All,

After reading many posts here I decided to finally ask my own question. Here it goes:

I moved into a new home last year and moved the Dryer/Washer from the kitchen to the basement (home built in 60s). Anyhow the issue I am having is the ventilation portion. Currently it was at about 10ft from the spot in the kitchen to the outside, with no upward ventilation. What I need to do now is take the existing pipe and extend it about 5 more feet the other way throw in a 90 degree angle join and then 6 feet down. With the 90degree angle (plus 5') it would put the total footage at 26ft and I have heard that you should not extend the dryer vent over 20-25'.

I do understand the lint backup issue, but was wondering if it is that big of an issue for a 26' run with 1 90degree angle (not including the angle it comes out of the dryer). Anyhow I want to save the time and hassle it would be to make a new vent hole in my brick (that and 1 hole should be plenty). What I would also like to know is that would a new dryer be able to be ran further than an older one? If so I am not opposed to getting a new dryer to reduce the risk of lint build up.

Appreciate any insight on the issue, thanks!

I would recommend very strongly that you invest in the 'hard way.' With that length of duct and with the 90 degree you will get very poor airflow. Poor airflow = poor drying of the clothes. You might also have more lint build-up at the dryer. There would not be a significant difference between a brand-new dryer and an older, well-maintained (lint cleaned frequently) machine in terms of airflow performance.
