Guys I'm going to put up a new roof. And the contractor doing it for me wants to install ridge vents? Are they worth it? Do they help with insulation and air circulation? Or are they just a waste of time and money?
Got a good price. Between 4 and 5 Grand :-)
beats the Hell out of 13,500!!! Good Lord...

Don't know where you're located but most places-- ridge vents are good. You can't have enough ventilation. Just make sure you have intakes in the soffit or low so that you can keep the air moving...

I dormered the back of our house
Since I had ceiling opened I retrofitted vents into the front roof from the soffit to the new ridge vent
Since there was insulation in, I had to press the insulation down & slide the baffles down the roof
As I finished the 1st section I could feel what felt like a blast of cool air coming up the completed vent
It wasn't a hot day & the front of my roof faces North
But there was still a lot of heat trapped in the roof
With better insylation on the 2nd floor & venting its warmer in the winter & cooler in the summer without fans
