Hello,
Im new to this forum but it looks like it is very helpful so i wanted to take a shot. I have a 19" Polaroid LCD TV that i just purchased. It is connected to a digital cable box and the picture is normally awesome. However when my furnace/ hating system kicks on I am getting serious vertial lines and some crackling on the screen. The interference is there even if the cable box is disconnected.
How can i remedy this? Can a furnace cause this type of interference?
Thanks
Mr T

It's possible.. It could be a motor in your furnace telling you something too (about to go).
Go to your breaker panel and find the breaker for the TV's circuit. Unless you have a very old or odd panel this should work. There are 2 legs of power coming into your house. Every other row of breakers is on the same leg.. (The top row of 2 breakers is on the first leg, the second row is on the 2nd leg, the 3rd row is on the first leg and so on...) Do not go by breaker numbers.
Move the TV to another circuit that is 1 breaker above or below the current breaker.... or 3 or 5 or 7 spots below. It doesnt matter what side of the panel its on. Most likely your furnace is on the same leg as the TV. If the TV works fine on this new circuit then your tv may be ok and its the furnace acting up. If it still acts up, there may be something wrong with your TV.
(not knocking your selection here) but ive heard some so so reviews on Poloroid TV"s. It may not have the best power supply in it, allowing interference to pass. If you have the abiliity to return it, you may want to try first getting another tv of the same model to rule out a defective tv, or if there is something comparable, try a different brand.
Another possible solution is to get a good quality (not the $15 special) power strip that filters your power. Also a UPS (uninturuptable power supply) may help. (plus you get the ability to see what your picture looks like when the power goes out... :hmmmm:)
