If you want to create a real spectacular effect, try lighting up walls instead of plants.
Buy shinning a beam of light between the plants and the house, onto the walls, you will create what's called a counterbeam effect. This will light up the house for security purposes while outlining the vegetation.

You could also consider using recessed ceiling fixtures (under the outside entrance soffit) instead of wall fixtures. By using the tiltable type, you will be able to aim the beam coming from the ceiling, onto the entrance wall.

Your house will stand out like a artist on a stage.

I did the recessed soffet lighting thing myself. Every 5 feet i placed another 6 inch can. Tore up my forearms fishing the wire through. looked like i got into a scuffle with the neighborhood tomcat and he won. All is better now and when i get to the porch in front, i will place some up there as well. Nice way to increase that security with a bright, but indirect lighting solution. Neighbors were jealous.:bawling:

Hello everyone,

One time I installed white or clear rope lighting all the way around the house
neatly tucked into the soffit/eve overhang area and put the circuit on a
dimmer. WOW! is what everyone said when they seen it. Amazing effect with
even light distribution and at around $1 a foot a very inexpensive project.

Maybe this could work for you.
