My home is only 4 months old but the septic seems slow. If any amount of water besides just flushing a toilet goes into the septic, it backs up and I can see water in the main clean out from the house. After a couple hours its gone. There is a septic pump that pumps the effluent into the drain field. Does this sound like the drain field just isn't accepting the effluent like it should? It has been pretty dry here in AL. I also notice that when I cut the power to the septic pump the tank overfills and backs up to the house. Is this liquid that had been sitting in the drain field?
Thanks

First thing to check is a possible clog between the house and the septic tank.
The septic tank itself should rest at about 85 percent full which is the exit pipe level. Almost as soon as any new water arrives, water exits the septic tank. If inspection shows the level to stay in the 95 plus percent range, the outlet pipe (to the tank where the pump sits) is the next place to check.
After the pump's tank (should have its own inspection lid) gets to a certain level, the pump starts. This tank should be nearly empty by the time the pump stops. If tremendous amounts of water roll back down after the pump stops, you may have a problem up in the drain field.
Some dual chamber septic tanks with pump may have the pump in the second chamber instead of in a separate tank. Here, the second chamber need not be completely emptied by the pump but after any water rolls back, the level should be substantially lower with the pump stopped.

Better get the installer back immediately, and don't take no for an answer.

It sounds like someone has driven over the pipe to the drain field, or over the field itself and crushed or packed the lines. Have you had any tractors or other heavy machinery crossing that patch of land? If you have, you may be s.o.l.
If you haven't, the installer may try to claim that's what has happened to avoid fixing it under warranty.

I do know they they regraded the land behind all of our homes due to the way the water was running in heavy rain. I know they had a small bobcat pushing the dirt around above the leech field. I have a feeling it will be a battle to get them to do anything about it.
