I have a 9 year old culligan mark 100 softener. It looks like the level of salt in the brine tank has not changed for months and I think salt is not being used up. I have no idea if regeneration cycles are still occurring or not since they are set to run at 2am (in a basement location). I have no specific knowledge of water softeners, but can troubleshoot just about anything with a lead to go on.

Carefully poke in teh tank with a broom handle.. Your salt could be clumpted together and suspended above the water level.

You can also trigger a manual regeneration so you can watch it in action.

How is your water-- Is it hard or soft??

Do you have water(brine) in the salt tank?

I'll check the contact between the salt and the water. Maybe it is suspended above the brine level. When I feel the top of the salt bed and sides of the tank it feels crusted together like a brick.

My wife and I have noticed the water feels harder than it used to and the tubs and sinks need cleaning more often.

That's a salt bridge. When you get the salt down into the water, add 3-4 gallons of water into the water in the tank, not through the salt if possible, and two hours later do a manual regeneration. Then do that again. Then it should be fine.
