Recently had a knee wall framed in our attic. Top rail was not beveled to angle of roof. We have a question as to drywalling it properly. Do you install the ceiling drywall first then the wall? I know that installing the ceiling first is the correct way but when doing the knee wall if doing the ceiling first then the wall there will be a gap in the drywall seam, rather large to fill in with mud.

In holding two pieces of wood up it would make sense to do the wall then the ceiling BUT there is no level surface along the top rail of the knee wall to screw the drywall into. Is this okay or do we need to somehow install a one by in there to make up the difference?

Thanks, hope this makes sense........

This section is where you ask for help on how to use the forum, not to ask questions. Probably best if asked in Building Construction - Existing Home.

But to answer your question, if I'm envisioning this correctly:

The ceiling should be done first and the wall rock then extends up to the ceiling rock to hold up that ceiling edge. Can't you just extend the ceiling rock into the knee wall gap? Then, run the wall rock all the way to the ceiling rock with the proper bevel. You won't be able to nail either right where they meet, but that is why you hold up the ceiling piece with the wall piece. Nailing the wall piece a few inches below the very top (right at the top of the knee wal) should be sufficient.

Alternatively, can you rip a piece of wood at the proper bevel and nail it into the gap? This is the best solution, but if you don't have a table saw, this could be hard.
