Surprise, while casting for musky(opening day) & trailing couple slip bobbers with Mud heads.(walleye) Boarded a 44'' Musky, surprise is Musky came on the minnow #6 hook with brand new 20# spider wire. Ultralite rod,no leader, took some time to land him, could'nt bring him up. He finally came up and was boated. We had good release for someone else to enjoy the thrill we had catching him and the laugh's how we got him. Lost 5 other good strikes same 2 hour outing.(casting) Bad weather has moved in but another good day of fishing.

44" muskie is well worth a picture or two. Where are your pictures? Sounds like luck was definitly on your side. They don't call those fish tackle busters for nothing.
Last fall I was in Minnisota fishing and threw a wood devil horse triple hook into shallow water by a set of weeds. Had spider wire on bait caster. A northern hit that devil's horse and took off zig zagging through the weeds and brush. I felt him strip my drag for about 3 seconds then nothing. I pushed my bass boat into the shallow water following the line thinking this thing was going to bust out any second. I got to the lure. All three sets of treble hooks on that lure was straightened out. Took him only 3 seconds to flatten those smaller hooks. Had a great thrill but was laughed at for a day or two over using such a small lure where something like that could have hit. I was fishing for bass !! That tackle buster picked on my poor little lure for no good reason, duh ! I then went prepared using a 2 x 2 Suike with hooks big enough to cross his eyes. Never got him to strike the rest of the day. Next day MY BUDDY went to the same spot and brought out a 42" pike. THAT WAS MY PIKE !! Murphy's law I guess ??
Love to see a picture or two.
congrats
