My leech fields are up on a hill, behind my house, in a heavily wooded area. The area of the fields, however, is pretty clear off trees, except for some dense brush that's growing right now. It would be very hard to go up there with a mower. I have been pulling all this growth by hand, and using a machete. Is there anything I could use to kill the roots after I clear the area (I assume the roots are superficial if I could just pull them by hand).
What should I do?

It depends on the depth of your leech field. If the field is deeper than the expected roots normally so for just brush then the weeds and brush drinks the water and helps the system rid of water in the area. Often times we have what is called a gray water feild where washer, dishwasher, water softner is drained into a separate septic field installed shallow in a smaller circle then a woody plant of flower combo is planted to suck up the excess water making the plants happy and hte septic field ready to accept more water.
Just some info
