Look what I found while tracing a circuit. A J-Box buried behind the wall. I was told I could tear into the drywall (Remodel-- bed and bath).

What? What kind of monkey would do such a thing! :withstupid:

I was told I could tear into the drywall (Remodel-- bed and bath).
I would have torn into the wall even without permission!

Seriously, could you figure out what was there to start with? (switch / outlet) I like how they connected those ground wires outside the box! With a "Scotchlock" wire nut too. I hate those. My basement was full of 'em.:shot: Whoever installed them in my house didn't know when to stop twisting and they twisted until the damn spring broke free. I couldn't get 'em off and had to cut the already short wires.:argh: I'm guessing that this was done in the 50's:smile2: That white-sheathed romex looks a little newer.

good luck Ohm!

Nice, at least (hopefully) they are all secured
My last house I pulled off a baseboard trim in the bedroom to put a new rug down
I found a box behind the baseboard trim with live wires

While working in a 50's era home this week, repairing some damaged cables in the garage, I found two cables going up to the dining room, but there was nothing in the wall above. Found a receptacle box that had been plastered over 50 years ago with the wires inside still hot.

I like how they connected those ground wires outside the box!

Quite a few houses in my area built in the 60's have all the grounds connected together outside the metal outlet boxes. Usually with crimp rings, instead of wire nuts. Must have been a common (local) practice at that time.

So who's at fault, the electrician....or the mudda?
