I'm in the early stages of building a new house and I plan on installing my own structured wiring system. I'm very familiar with the entire system except for building codes related to actually making the cabling runs. I'm also not too familiar with the term plumbing stack, which I've seen several times while lurking about on this forum.
First of all, I'm assuming (based on my floor plans and having not spoken to our builder about it yet) that the plumbing stack is part of the designed 2' x 2' or so cavity running through the center of the house, basement to 2nd floor. If this is the case, this seems like a perfect location to run CAT5e and RG6 between the basement and 2nd floor.
However, I think I read somewhere that running cabling alongside plumbing is a no-no. Is that true? Is that for electrical only?
I certainly want to be within code and don't want to do anything to slow down my builder.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris Luebbe
