When running and stove cable in a finsihed basement, can I run the wiring along side the heating ducts enclosured in a drywall finished box? Do the wires need to be secured or can it lay on top within the finished box.

You can run the cable along side the heating duct. You can not run it inside the heating duct or cold air return. If the ceiling is already finished you can fish it and not worry about fastening it in the finished ceiling.

Thanks for the reply. The ceiling is already finished and as is we need to punch a few holes in the box to feed the wire through. I would hate to punch more holes and larger holes to fasten the wire within the boxed frame.

I would be concerned about running the cable over or alongside heating duct without putting insulation between the two.
