Noticed some bulging / cracking on the ceiling the other day. Didn't think much of it since most of the ceiling are sagging in the house. As I'm renovating I'm loading them up with screws.
Well today I noticed it really seemed to drop. I tried to put in a screw but it punched through before I even pulled the trigger. That can't be good. I poked it with a razor knife and water started POURING out. Damn! Last pin hole leak gave me some warning in the form of a stain forming on the paint. This one, the paint looks perfect.
I'm in one of those areas known for pin hole leaks. This is only my second in the three years living in the house (built in '71). My neighbor was getting them weekly before deciding to replace all the copper (ceiling/water crashed down on her grand piano)!
I've only been repairing directly the leak, basically replacing 24" of copper.
What do you think:
Keep repairing the short sections.
Replace both hot and cold while I have a hole in the ceiling even if only one is leaking.
Start another project (that I don't need right now) and replace all the copper.
Start replacing copper sections with PEX.
Full swap out to PEX.
